First Choice Drainage Solutions is a family-owned business operating in the drainage, groundworks, and plumbing sector. This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit team at our office based in Matching Green, Harlow. As our organisation continues to grow, we are seeking a Financial Controller to lead our financial operations, ensuring precision, compliance, and strategic insight.

This role will be a full-time position based in the office, working 09:00-17:00. Part-time will be considered. The right candidate can expect to progress in their career as the company expands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Oversight: Manage all aspects of financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and professional development.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, accounting standards, and internal policies.
  • Risk Management: Identify risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present accurate financial reports, statements, and analyses to Directors.
  • Audit Coordination: Oversee internal and external audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Cost Management: Analyse and optimise cost structures to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Other tasks will include monthly accounts, VAT returns and cash flow management.

Skills and Experience

  • Professional certification must include ACCA or CIMA qualified (AAT qualified will be considered)
  • Must have experience within the construction industry – to include understanding of CIS and Reverse VAT
  • 5+ years of experience in financial management, with a track record of success in a senior finance role
  • Proficiency in financial software (XERO) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with stakeholders at all levels
  • Precision and accuracy in financial reporting and compliance
